Written for the 2020 Pinellas County All County Symphonic band
Level: Grade: 5
Scoring: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Bassoons, 3 Bb Clarinets, Bass Clarinet, 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, 3 Trumpets (Bb), 4 Horns in F, 3 Tenor Trombones, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Double Bass, Timpani, Percussion (4 Players) Snare Drum, Concert Bass Drum, Hi-Hat, Glockenspiel, Marimba, Xylophone, Chimes, Suspended Cymbal
Program Note: “NYC” was written in 2019 when I returned home from a summer camp at The Manhattan School of Music. Throughout the writing process, I tried to encapsulate that feeling of the city with all of its twists and turns with an alternating 5/8 and 7/8 time signature pattern. Following the intro, the ensemble opens up with the “NYC” theme, which quickly transitions into the “Nightlife” theme. The piece concludes with a trumpet fanfare, bringing the piece to a climactic closing.
“NYC” went on to win the Pinellas County Music Educators Young Composers Award in 2020.
