Steel Drums, Cowbell, Claves, Shaker

Program Note: ¡Wepa! Is a two-movement tribute to the music frequently found around the Caribbean islands such as Salsa, Bomba, Merengue, Calypso, and more. The first movement, Por Favor, tells the story of the girl in a red dress that is heavily sought after. You feel the pull and passion, but naturally, you watch her walk away into the night. The second movement Ya Tú Sabes pays homage to my family heritage from the island of Puerto Rico. The phrase Ya Tú Sabes is a widely used slang term meaning “You Already Know,” or “You Know How I DO.” This movement is a virtuosic celebration encapsulating the very souls of the islands and the spirit of the people of Puerto Rico.
